2017 Board of Directors Election

Please participate in the New Jersey Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (NJAASC) 2017 Board of Directors election. To clarify, there are eight (8) available seats to be filled by this election.

You may vote for no more than eight (8 total candidates) including One Room Candidates. Please note that you must vote for at least one (1) position for the One Room Center category. (For example, you may want to vote for the two One Room candidates and six Licensed center candidates or any other combination as long as there is a least one vote for a One Room candidate). The asterisk (*) next to each candidate signals that they currently serve on the NJAASC board of directors.


The bios set forth below were provided by the candidate for the open Board positions.

Sharon is currently the administrator of three ASC’s and has successfully ensured their national accreditation six times. She has been an active member of NJAASC for 15 years and always encourages vendors, doctors and other ASCs to become members. As a previous NJAASC Board Member, President, and Past President on the current Board, she enhanced the growth of membership by making members feel included and that their opinions were respected. She follows legislative aspects that specifically affect “single room ASCs” as well as licensed facilities. Her management role in the ASC industry enables her to bring value to the NJAASC Board. Her knowledge base includes billing and insurance contracts human resources, JACHO surveys and inspections.

Joan is the administrator for Somerset Surgical Center (a one room center) and Ambulatory Surgical Center of Somerset ( two room center) for the past 9 years.  Both centers are privately owned and specialize in Pain, Ortho and Spine.  Prior to that Joan was the Medical Surgical Director at Robert Wood Johnson Somerset.  Joan has a mix of inpatient and outpatient experience.

Ed is currently the Managing Partner at The Alexander Group Consultants LLC. Ed Founded and coordinated a consulting practice geared toward the special needs of health care providers and non-profit organizations, initially bringing together nine previously independent consultants into a network to develop markets, increasing the group’s ability to meet customer needs, and compete for business.  Client base includes ASCs and registered surgical practices in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania, Ed also worked in the past with organizations in places as diverse as Texas and Massachusetts.

Sharon is a healthcare executive with over 30 years’ experience, 18 years exclusive to the ASC industry. Sharon has served as an accreditation facility inspector since 2011, and therefore has a solid knowledge of the regulations and compliance. I am a long-term active member of the organization. Like many, Sharon has relied on hard work and dedication of past board members to lead us through the many challenges of our industry as a dedicated member and strong supporter of this organization. Sharon is willing to serve to help meet the vision and goals of our organization. Our membership is made up of dedicated professionals all of whom exemplify leadership in their facilities on a daily basis. Sharon would like to see our organization provide support to our membership and meeting the needs of individual centers as well as the overall industry issues and challenges that we will face. In addition as ASC leaders, we must maintain continued and strong support for those who are so dedicated to political advocacy both in New Jersey and nationally. The continued success of the ASC industry is influenced by the political landscape. Sharon feels we can achieve our goals by the ongoing active engagement of our membership. Sharon takes pride on being experienced, knowledgeable and a skilled leader regarding ASC industry issues. Sharon is dedicated and wish to contribute to the continued success of NJAASC.”

Michael Graziano serves as the administrator Clifton Surgery Center. The center is a two operating room, state licensed, Medicare certified and AAA HC accredited multispecialty facility that opened in 1994.  Michael has over 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry, and his track record includes successful recruitment and retention physician partners, strong financial growth and the development of the strong team of healthcare professionals. The healthcare industry is a passion of Michael who states, “The ambulatory surgery center industry presents unique ever-changing economic and regulatory landscape for an administrator navigating these changes in developing successful methods of improvement in order to continue delivering quality cost-effective care for our patients is satisfying task. I believe that evaluation and strategic planning are keys to the success of any surgery center. Pinpointing your center strengths and weaknesses in all phases of the operation will allow you to implement strategies that contain the most efficient allocation of resources in order to diligently and continuously improve healthcare and business practices.” Michael currently serves as the Treasurer for the NJAASC.

Caroline has more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry. She began her career in physician practice and urgent care and moved to ambulatory surgical care in 1997. Caroline is the administrator at Bergen-Passaic Eye Surgery Center, in Fair Lawn, N.J. Before accepting the position, Caroline oversaw the design and completion of center’s expanded facility in its current location. Prior to joining Bergen-Passaic Caroline was employed at an ASC management and development company.
Caroline has been integrally involved in all aspects of the industry including, strategic planning, business development, revenue cycle management, contract negotiation, inventory management, regulatory compliance, accreditation, and construction project management. Additionally, she taught at Eastwick College for over 11 years, where she specialized in coursework including office management and administration, OSHA and HIPAA compliance, coding and billing procedures, and medical records.

Sarah is the Administrator of Ambulatory Center for Endoscopy in North Bergen, N.J., a Physicians Endoscopy-affiliated center.  Sarah has been in the ASC industry since 1998 and has extensive experience with overseeing all aspects of surgery center operations.  Sarah obtained her Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Berkeley College in 2008 and CASC certification in 2014.  She is a current Board member of the NJAASC and ASCAPAC.  Sarah is committed to and heavily involved in the ASC industry serving as the Chair of the NJAASC Membership Committee and a member of the NJAASC Government Affairs Committee and ASCA Membership Committee.  Sarah lives in Bergen County, NJ with her husband, Daniel and two sons, Nicholas and Chase.

Jeff currently works at the Journal Square Surgical Center and is current Vice President, New Jersey Association Ambulatory Surgery Centers. Jeff is also the current Chair, Government Affairs Committee.  Jeff is very active with the New Jersey Association Ambulatory Surgery Centers Committees serving on: Membership, Budget, Program, Event, One Room, Website.  Jeff is also Secretary, NJASCPAC and lead writer for the weekly NJAASC publication- News you need to Know.

Meg is the Administrator at the Seashore Surgical Institute. Meg Stagliano started her nursing career over 15 years ago. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from New Jersey City University. After working in various nursing leadership roles, Meg joined Seashore Surgical Institute in 2003. In 2004 Meg received her Executive MBA in Health Systems Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Meg is very active in the surgery center community in New Jersey. She is currently severing as a Board Member of the New Jersey Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers.

James is the administrator of the Advanced Surgical Institute in Sewell, NJ. The Center is a joint venture center between Virtua and nineteen Physicians and is multi- specialty, doing Orthopaedics, Pain Management, Podiatry and G.I.. Our yearly volume is around 7600 cases without giving away any confidential information. Here are three Operating Rooms and two procedures rooms. We opened the center in 2008 and has been AAAHC Accredited ever since.  James has been a Nurse for 40 years, graduating from the Cooper Medical Center School of Nursing which was located in Camden, NJ in 1977. He started in the Operating Room as an O.R. Technician in 1971 prior to going to Nursing School. James has been involved with ASC’s since 1995 serving as an Administrator in three out of the four that he has had the pleasure to work in. James also has also served in his community of Leesburg, NJ as a member of the Land Use Board, the Zoning Board, the Chief if the Leesburg Fire Department and Chief of the Rescue Squad. James is a Life Member of the Cumberland County Fire Chief’s Association.
