New Jersey Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers Sponsors Second One World Surgical Mission to Transform Lives in Honduras

Trenton, NJ (July 16, 2019) – The New Jersey Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (“NJAASC”) has sponsored a second medical mission thru its selected charity, One World Surgery, through fundraising and matching funds for a total of $1,886. Specifically, NJAAC will sponsor a medical mission for Steven Sanacore, a nurse with Surgical Center of South Jersey in Mt. Laurel, NJ.  During the week-long mission to Honduras, the mission team will provide surgeries to patients who otherwise would not have access to high-quality surgical care.

A portion of the program fee covers Sanacore’s on-site costs, but the majority of each program fee is applied towards the costs of surgery which One World Surgery provides free to its patients.

“One World Surgery is grateful for the New Jersey Association of Ambulatory Surgery Center’s continued support of our patients in Honduras through a medical mission scholarship. This flight scholarship will enable a nurse to join a team of volunteers who will provide high-quality surgical care for approximately 60 patients the week of July 27-August 3,” said Maria Doria, Medical Missions Manager at One World Surgery.

During One World Surgery’s week-long medical mission trips, physicians, other clinical participants, nonclinical participants, and family members come together to perform life-changing surgeries. One World Surgery hosts 1-2 medical mission teams each month, with up to 60 volunteers per team. Currently, all medical missions take place at the Holy Family Surgery Center (HFSC) in Honduras. HFSC currently offers the following specialties: general surgery; orthopedics; gynecology; urology; ophthalmology; ear, nose, and throat; surgical oncology; and spine. The surgery center is located on the 2,000-acre ranch of the children’s home Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH).

NJAASC President Jeff Shanton said, “We are delighted to sponsor Mr. Sanacore’s trip as part our ongoing partnership with One World Surgery, not only because he represents an NJAASC-member center, but because of our shared commitment to the delivery of high-quality surgical care, as well as their focus on serving those in need, which is a core value for our members.”
